He and Shakira, née Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, announced in May that they had split following unverified claims that Pique cheated on her with a younger woman.

Meanwhile, Shakira said last month she felt “hurt” by Spanish tax authorities and accused her of a €14 million fraud.

The singer and her legal team are speaking out ahead of a trial that could see her sentenced to eight years in prison if found guilty.

“It is unacceptable that the tax authorities’ accusation does not respect the legal certainty that every taxpayer must be assured and not my fundamental rights,” she said.

“They’re also trying to tarnish a reputation they’ve built through years of work… in my case, they violated my right to privacy and the presumption of innocence, fundamental rights of every citizen.”

Shakira is accused of living abroad and using an offshore corporate account structure to avoid tax obligations from 2012 to 2014 and faces six separate counts.
