Famed singer and rapper Honey Singh and his wife Shalini Talwar split as the duo ended their 11-year marriage. The Saket court in Delhi finally granted them the divorce on Friday (September 8), which the duo filed for in 2021. However, what caught the netizen’s attention was the hefty amount the singer paid his ex-wife.
A whopping sum of Rs 1 crore was paid by Honey Singh to Shalini in alimony. In 2021, the internet was taken by storm when Shalini accused Honey Singh and his family of domestic violence.
According to a report in India Today, Honey Singh and Shalini reached the Saket Family Court in Delhi on September 8, where they reached a divorce settlement. During the hearing of the case, singer Shalini presented Talwar with a check for Rs 1 crore in alimony in a sealed envelope. All allegations against the singer have been settled in family court and the next hearing will take place on March 20, 2023.
In the complaint filed by Shalini, she alleged that she was the victim of physical, verbal and psychological abuse at the hands of Honey Singh, his mother and sister.
Further, Shalini said in her complaint that she started dating the singer in 2001 and in 2011 they both tied the knot. However, after marriage, Honey Singh’s behavior towards her became extremely rude, brash, aggressive, contemptuous and disrespectful.
She said she was a victim of domestic violence after pictures of the marriage were leaked. However, the singer has denied all allegations.
“I have never made a public statement or press release in the past, despite being criticized for my writing, speculation about my health and generally negative media coverage. However, I see no merit in maintaining a deliberate silence this time as some of the allegations were directed at my family – my elderly parents and my younger sister – who stood by me and made my world through some very difficult and difficult times. The allegations are cynical and defamatory.”
Hirdesh Singh popularly known as “Yo Yo Honey Singh” has sung several Punjabi rap songs.
