It happened around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27 at the 500 block of May Street, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.
Kevin Morgan, 34, was handing his 12-year-old daughter to her mother for the scheduled pick-up time when he got into an argument with the mother’s longtime boyfriend, 38-year-old Derek Mayo, according to investigators.
According to authorities, a verbal altercation broke out on the street before Morgan pulled out a firearm and shot Mayo once in the chest.
Mayo, from Parkesburg, was taken to Pottstown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, prosecutors said. At his autopsy on Wednesday, June 28, the county coroner’s office ruled that his death was murder by gunshot.
Morgan was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child and similar charges. He was remanded to the county jail because bail is not available for murder suspects.
Police said they found five firearms “all lawfully owned (.)” during a search of Morgan’s home.
