Ex-Premier League striker jailed for failing to pay £70,000 maintenance to Miss Croatia’s ex-wife
A former Premier League striker has been jailed after failing to pay his Miss Croatia ex-wife £70,000 in financial support following their divorce.
Former Croatia international and former Aston Villa striker Bosko Balaban was given a one-year conditional prison sentence and four years’ probation in 2021 for owing maintenance payments to former model wife and Miss Croatia 1995, Iva Radic.
Balaban, 45, played for Aston Villa between 2001 and 2003, but only made 11 appearances for Villa and did not score a goal for the club, although he did score 10 international goals in 35 international appearances. Balaban left Villa in 2003 to join Club Brugge after being released from his contract.

The former footballer was married to Radic for more than a decade before they divorced in 2017 and the couple had three children together. However, Balaban was unable to pay the full amount of his maintenance debt within the two-year deadline, meaning he will now be sentenced to a one-year prison sentence and four years’ probation, Belgian newspaper HLN reports.
According to the report, the court in Zagreb announced the verdict and told Balaban that there was “no way out” of the prison sentence. Even if he paid the overdue money, he would still be jailed, the report said.

Radic was Miss Croatia 1995
Radic, 46, has worked with brands such as Paco Rabanne, H&M Damiani, Chanel and Journal during her modeling career, which began when she was crowned Miss Croatia at the age of 18.
While at the same time Balaban started his senior career in Rijeka in his home country. He later played for Dinamo Zagreb before moving to Villa. After his Premier League nightmare, he also played for Club Brugge, Zagreb again, Panionios in Greece and Selangor in Malaysia.
