BEECH GROVE — A man was shot and killed by police early Wednesday at an apartment complex in Beech Grove.
Online police reports show that Beech Grove officers arrived at 4448 Willow Bend Drive at the Willow Glen apartment complex just after 6 a.m. to check on a child.
Police said a man was at the apartment to pick up his child and was armed with a knife. One officer was wounded in the face before an officer opened fire, killing the man, Indiana State Police Sgt. said John Perrine. State police are investigating the shooting.
“I think it was a visitation issue. From what I understand, the person was supposed to be here at 6 p.m. to visit their child,” Beech Grove Deputy Police Chief Tom Hurrle told Fox59. “It’s a long time before that. The mother was not prepared to give up the child. It was still dark and well ahead of schedule. Then she called the police.”
Three officials involved in each case are on administrative leave. All had activated body cameras, Perrine said.
Further details were initially not known.
