Chennai Police have arrested three people in connection with the triple murder in Sowcarpet district that took place on November 11. A family of three – Thalil Chand (70), Pushpa Bai (70) and the couple's son Sheetal Chand (42) – were found dead with gunshot wounds in their home on Wednesday evening.

Thalil Chand, who ran a financial firm, and his wife Pushpa Bai and their son – a native of Rajasthan – were found dead in their house on the first floor of a three-storey residential apartment on Vinayaga Maestri Street in Chennai. Police said they were shot by unknown assailants.

The accused, including Sheetal's brother-in-law, were arrested after a fierce chase in Solapur district of Maharashtra.

Jayamala from Pune and Sheetal Kumar got married 10 years ago through a marriage website. Sheetal and his wife, who moved to Pune after their wedding were in the middle of an acrimonious divorce settlement, with the woman's family allegedly demanding more maintenance.

Jayamala had complained of harassment, became estranged from her husband and left her matrimonial home last January. She lived in Pune with her two children and her parents. Kumar had filed a complaint in this regard in the city's family court, The Hindu reported.

The accused's vehicle was spotted in Solapur and when the police started chasing them, they started speeding. They were eventually intercepted and three people were arrested. This included Kailash and his two friends Ravindranath and Vijay.

Our staff worked day and night to solve the case and locate the remaining defendants.

Husband had previously filed a complaint about threats

As The News Minute reported, the commissioner also confirmed that Sheetal had previously lodged a police complaint regarding threats. Aggarwal told the media:

As soon as the case was reported, we got evidence of a family dispute. Sheetal Chand had already reported a marital dispute to the police and the family had said they had received threats. However, they were unable to identify who the perpetrators were. So the investigation into this matter was already underway.
