The actress and former RJ Piloo Vidyarthi previously told Hindustan Times that she intends to create her own identity following her publicly split from Ashish Vidyarthi. She rightly made her debut with Akelli alongside Nushrratt Bharuccha. In a new chat with us, Piloo shares what’s new in her life and work.

Directed by Pranay Meshram, Piloo plays a distraught mother fighting for justice in India after her daughter (played by Nushrratt) is caught up in Iraq’s civil war. The film illuminates her attempt to escape from there. Piloo reveals how she felt connected to the character from the start.

“In the film, the mother who never left the house goes to the embassy and protests outside the gates. In this situation, they also surround the media. She is someone who has never spoken to anyone publicly, either on camera or on TV. I found the role very interesting.”
She relates even more to the role as she describes herself as a “secret” persona. “During the premiere of Akelli, I asked my friend to come with me. I’m afraid to see cameras and so many people at once. In fact, I told my director to wait for me at the gate. “I had no idea if anyone would even recognize me, otherwise security might ask me to leave.” I’m aam admi (citizen),” says Piloo, laughing.

About her work experience on the set, Piloo describes the crew as “realistic” and calls the director “amazing”. She says of Nushrratt: “From what I understand, she is a very professional and intense actress. She puts her heart and soul into the film. She is very disciplined and warm; no tantrum.”

Preparing for Akelli

Every actor has their own way of preparing for their roles, and Piloo shares hers. “I connected to the story. I imagined my child separated from me, which it really is. I can never fake an emotion. I’m generally a realistic person. In fact, I’ve loved films since I was a kid and I’ve always avoided going on sets with my mom,” she says.

Ironically, Piloo is now an actor. She says: “I don’t think I was drawn to films at the time. That doesn’t mean there was a negative aspect to it, but I don’t think it was my calling. I could never connect. But now I’ve worked with very interesting people to connect with.”
Real tears in Akelli

“The women in me have always responded to my role as a mother, which I play in Akelli. I’m a mother too. my son is gone I get lonely and scared. But I don’t lie to myself. I cry when I’m hurt and smile when I’m happy. For example, my son is in Texas. I know he works at Tesla and that’s cause for celebration, but I’m a mom. In all my scenes I never needed help to make me cry. Those are my real tears,” she says.
Media hype surrounding Ashish Vidyarthi split
Piloo collapses in a scene from Akelli when she is surrounded by people and Nushrratt somehow manages to call her mother. In another, Piloo can be seen being hounded by the media as she finds herself in an ugly situation. Something similar happened when news of Ashish’s second marriage first broke. Piloo remembers: “Ha, I had to prove myself and stand up. Until my interview with Hindustan Times I had no idea what to do Will be clarified.

“I remember the interview went viral. Everyone read it and debated it as if they were in Parliament. Most of them said good things, but there were 20 to 30 who got frustrated and spread negative things like “I’m hearing a lot of child support here”, “This is all window dressing”. It happens that life is like this – kuch toh garbar hai (something is rotten); Divorce can’t be that easy. But I don’t think about it anymore.”
What’s next?
While Piloo made her film debut after spending some time in the theater, is her son thinking about it too? She bluntly denies, “Arth was never interested in films. However, he is interested in music, something he inherited from us. He has a guitar and a keyboard at home.” After a successful break into the cinema, Piloo is now preparing for her upcoming single. She will debut as an independent artist. She is now also looking for auditions. “Looking for a job is also a job, isn’t it?”
