Rapper Vanilla Ice’s divorce saga has more staying power than its 1989 hit, Ice Ice Baby.
The 52-year-old Ice Ice Baby rapper, whose real name is Rob Van Winkle, and ex-wife Laura Van Winkle continue to tangle in a Palm Beach County family court despite their official divorce since November 2019.
Now, Laura claims her ex underbought her in her $ 10,500 monthly maintenance payments.
“This thing has been going on for a long time, it’s a fact,” said John Christiansen, the star’s high profile divorce attorney.
The bitterness seemed to calm down late last year when a judge broke Van Winkles’ 22-year marriage and declared them divorced.
It had been almost three years since Laura, 49, a homemaker who raised her two adult daughters, first went to court to end the marriage.
Vanilla Ice was ordered to pay his ex-wife, Laura Van Winkle, a whopping $ 10,500 a month, as well as $ 110,000 for what he didn’t pay after their divorce. She said two of her monthly alimony payments did not quite hit the $ 10,500 agreed upon
Within a month of the ruling, DailyMail.com exclusively learned that Laura resumed the case after two of her monthly alimony payments didn’t quite hit $ 10,500, the amount the home rehab DIY network show hosted The Vanilla Ice Project agreed to pay them for life.
Laura had previously accused rapper Ice Ice Baby of leaving her with no income after he stopped making pre-divorce benefit payments last year. Records show that Ice makes $ 68,000 a month
Laura’s attorney moved to find Vanilla Ice in disregard of the court.
“The fact that the ex-husband has not paid his maintenance obligation in full is a deliberate violation of the court order,” says Laura’s petition.
But the rapper exclusively told DailyMail.com that it was just a glitch.
“It’s paid,” Vanilla Ice said in a text message. “There was a bug with the automatic payment. All of this for a few hundred dollars? ‘
While the other details of the divorce settlement have been kept under wraps by the judiciary, it is clear that Laura had a lot of money to make.
According to its financial statements, Vanilla Ice makes $ 68,000 a month and has cash and cash equivalents, mostly cash, valued at more than $ 3 million.
He also owns at least 15 homes, eight vehicles, a boat, and other assets totaling $ 5,109,328.
His money comes in part from hosting The Vanilla Ice Project since 2009 and remnants from his early music and several tours around the world over the past decade.
He is said to be a top act at the Tortuga Music Festival in mid-April on Fort Lauderdale Beach.
Not only did Ice share half of his fortune with his ex, but he also had to pay $ 10,500 and $ 110,000 a month for what he failed to pay her during the divorce proceedings, as well as more than $ 200,000 for her legal bills , according to court records.
In motion, Laura repeatedly accused Rob of being so narrow-minded that she could barely defend herself.
The couple have two daughters Dusti Rain and Keelee Breeze – whom Laura previously said they wanted to divorce their parents
Laura had lived in her old married home in Versailles, a few miles south, in Wellington, Florida. The rapper bought this house in 2005 for $ 716,000
Laura resumed the case after two of her monthly alimony payments did not quite reach the agreed-upon $ 10,500
Meanwhile, the forensic accounting expert she hired found the rapper was spending $ 387,406 a year on himself.
In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com after she filed for divorce in 2016, Laura said she had been considering divorcing Rob for years.
“I was just too scared to do it,” she said at the time. She was referring to his three domestic violence incidents arrested between 2001 and 2008.
“He wouldn’t have a comeback without me,” she said at the time. “Now he’s left me with no money. I mean, he’s always been a good provider and all, but all of our fortune is in his name. He wants to control all the money. ‘
In interviews, Vanilla Ice often compares herself to the current fallen pop star Justin Bieber.
Van Winkle’s meteoric rise to the top of the music business came with the release of his rookie album To The Extreme in 1990.
Within a few years, when the album sold 7 million copies, the rapper was a multimillionaire with a lifestyle that matched what he portrayed in his music videos.
However, by the middle of the decade, the rapper was addicted to heroin, and his more recent albums and finances were down.
Van Winkle left show business and tried his hand at jet ski racing, motocross racing and even opened an extreme sports store in Miami Beach.
The one-hit wonder, made famous with its 1989 hit song, Ice Ice Baby, has hosted The Vanilla Ice Project on DIY Network since 2009
Almost forgotten in the 2000s, Vanilla Ice reappeared in 2010 when the singer duo Jedward, participants in the UK version of The X Factor, re-released an updated remix of Ice Ice Baby.
At the same time, the DIY Network broadcast the premiere of The Vanilla Ice Project in the USA, a reality series in which Ice buys a distressed property and tries to trick it with the help of a motley crew of craftsmen and their wives with atmospheric lighting and other gimmicks to sell it with big profits.
The show is about to enter its ninth season.
Usually very private, Van Winkle seems content with the divorce behind him.
He confirmed a rumor that he had a third daughter with a new girlfriend, whose identity he is shielding.
“The baby is doing great,” he wrote, “she has just started walking.”
He also wrote that he starred in a Netflix movie produced by comedian Adam Sandler that starred Saturday Night Live alums David Spade and Molly Sims, The Wrong Missy.
“It is hands down the funniest movie you will ever see,” wrote Ice.
