Chennai/Bhubaneswar: Samantha was offered a whopping Rs 200 crore by Naga Chaitanya and his family as part of the marriage ceremony. However, she refused to accept the alimony payments, India Today reported.
Star couple Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya, son of Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, announced their separation on October 2 after four years of marriage. The two will file for divorce by mutual consent.
Samantha has turned down the alimony and doesn’t want to take a penny from Naga Chaitanya or his family. She is currently focused on her work and putting her personal issues aside, India Today reported, citing a source close to the actress.
She is heartbroken but doesn’t want any project she is associated with to suffer because of her personal life, the source said.
The couple, popularly known as ChaySam, confirmed the breakup news in an official statement from Naga Chaitanya shared by Samantha, which they released on October 2. They asked their fans and media to give them privacy.
In the statement addressed to “our well-wishers,” Naga Chaitanya said, “After much thought and thought, Sam and I have decided to separate as husband and wife to go our separate ways. We are fortunate to have a friendship of over a decade that has been the core of our relationship and that we believe will always hold a special bond between us.”
The pair were first seen together in Gautham Menon’s iconic 2010 Telugu film Ye Maaya Chesave.
Naga Chaitanya added in the joint statement: “We ask our fans, well-wishers and the media to support us during this difficult time and give us the privacy we need to move on. Thanks for your support.”
Excitement about the dissolution of the marriage had intensified last month after Samantha dropped “Akkineni” from her name on her Twitter account, but neither directly addressed the rumours. Samantha and Naga Chaitanya got married in Goa in 2017.
