BJP leader Shazia Ilmi has asked the Supreme Court for uniformity on alimony and alimony

BJP leader Shazia Ilmi addressed the Supreme Court on Friday, asking the center to draft guidelines for a unified common code for all faiths on matters related to claiming alimony and alimony.

A bench consisting of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and JK Maheshwari flagged the lawsuit with a similar pending petition.

The PIL sought a common code for all personality rights so that spouses, children and elder parents can claim legitimate and just maintenance regardless of the personality rights of different faiths with regard to human and fundamental rights as enshrined in Articles 14, 15 and 21 are the Indian Constitution.

The plea found that the reasons for the alimony differ as the beliefs differ and the vulnerable groups are deprived of a just claim due to discrepancies in their personal laws that result in a mere violation of human rights.
