Alimony, or spousal support, is granted in Arizona after some divorces. The law states that this only occurs when a spouse lacks the assets and income needed to support their personal needs after the marriage ends. Other factors that can be analyzed are the spouse’s ability to become financially independent and their contributions to the marriage over the years.

The specific in-game amounts may vary due to a few different factors. Arizona statutes list these factors and they may be considered by the judge during the divorce and any separate hearing related to alimony. The actual level of income and the standard of living that the couple had during the marriage are always important. In addition to these financial concerns, the judge may consider how long the marriage lasted, how much each spouse can earn, and other background issues such as education levels and career prospects. If one spouse has contributed to the other’s education, training or other factors related to the earning capacity of the other, this may also be taken into account. Finally, the judge can consider how long it may take for the spouse claiming the payments to become financially stable through things like schooling, education, and finding suitable employment.

Three types of payments in Arizona
The country’s family courts divide payments into three types. The first is called permanent maintenance. These payments can potentially take forever, but the term permanent is more intended to show that no termination date has been set or considered. Permanent alimony payments are usually made only when it does not appear that either spouse will ever be able to establish financial stability or independence after a marriage. This usually means that the marriage was very long or that the recipient is of advanced age.
Rehabilitation alimony is the most likely outcome of a divorce involving alimony in Arizona. This means that the spouse will receive payments until a certain date is reached or until the spouse has met certain conditions that indicate professional or financial progress, such as
Compensatory alimony is the last type. This is like a payment to a spouse for their time and efforts related to the marriage. This type of maintenance is only paid for a certain period of time or to meet certain conditions.
